Latest University rankings just released by QS World University Rankings show 4 UK Universities in the Top 10.  They are

Rank:
3rd - University of Cambridge
4th - University College London
5th - Imperial College London
6th - University of Oxford

Where is the famous London School of Economics (LSE)?

LSE is not a comprehensive University, therefore it would not appear in the top 10 overall rankings. To find the answer, you need to look at the rankings by Subjects.

Let's first look at the rankings for Economics and Econometrics.  LSE is ranked a very strong 3rd, behind MIT and Harvard.

Next, we look at Accounting & Finance.  Again, LSE is ranked a very strong 3rd, behind Harvard and Oxford.

And we look at Politics and International Studies.  Again, LSE is ranked 3rd, after Harvard and Oxford.

So, in the subjects that LSE specialises in, it is Top 3 in the world.
